LONG NOTES:
My wife and I recently discussed serving size on packaging, and realized we had no understanding, so this may be useful to others. Food and nutrition board recommends about 16.5 servings of food daily! A serving size is a guide, not a recommendation of how much to eat or drink. The Nutrition Facts label on packaged foods will show the calories and nutrients in a “typically consumed serving size the manufacturer recommends”. Vegetables — 2 to 3 cups = 2.5 servings
Fruits — 1½ to 2 cups= 2 servings
Grains — 5 to 8 ounces= 6 servings
Dairy — 3 cups (fat-free or low-fat) = 3 servings
Protein foods — 5 to 6½ ounces= 2.5 servings
Oils — 5 to 7 teaspoons= 0.5 serving
Statins may not be good for your health. They increase oxidized phospholipids, which are not desirable. The only available therapy, at this point in time, is niacin, which does not increase oxidized phospholipids. They do reliably reduce cholesterol levels, but there is a major debate as to whether this is helpful for overall health, cardiovascular or otherwise
Science 25 Feb pg 833-exercise (Ex) reduces some of the cognitive effects of aging. Ex increases Selenium update, from nuts, dairy products and grains.
Science 25 Feb pg 816-Hypocretin underlies the decline in sleep quality with age. [Melatonin is beneficial for health and sleep].
