LONG NOTES

In several studies Taurine is shown to protect against sarcopenia and neurodegenerative disorders. I have always considered taurine to be a highly important supplement, have been taking it at about 1.5 grams daily for probably 2 decades and show no sign of sarcopenia or neurodegenerative disorders.

A drug target for obesity has been found! MC4R is a receptor that decreases hunger and food intake. Loss of function causes obesity, gain of function causes you to get thin. (Science 21 May pg 793)

Lifestyle changes avert dementia. Modifying diet, exercise and activities reduce risk of dementia by 40%. Cognitive training to speed thinking reduced risk 6%. Other factors-diabetes, high blood pressure, smoking, obesity, and lack of exercise increase risk.
