PROBLEMS WITH USING POLYCLONAL ANTIBODIES

You are never guaranteed to have the same batch with the same level of effectiveness. They’re prone to producing a lot of antibodies that have no set purpose. These antibodies can then cause distractions and disruptions when used in an application.

Serum sickness is the major adverse effect of PoAb. The overall use of polyclonal antibodies has been curbed by significant side effects, which occur in approximately 80% of patients. These side effects include fever, allergic reactions, serum sickness, thrombocytopenia.Rash. Chills. Diarrhea. Nausea. Vomiting. Malaise (a sense of unease or a lack of well-being)

  • More expensive to produce. It is necessary to produce a pool of several monoclonal antibodies.
  • Requires significantly more time to produce and develop the hybridized clone (+/- 6 months).
  • More susceptible to binding changes when labeled (e.g. with a chromogen or a fluorophore).
