The blueberry/green tea clinical trial is underway. The first volunteers are already providing measurements to help evaluate their health span changes. If your name is not on my list yet, please RSVP, SUBJECT: trial info please. But I will remind people again in January, when it is probably more convenient to do this.

Fruit and veggie fiber reduces stroke risk up to 15% among 70,000 Swedes – During 10.3 y of follow-up, 3680 incident stroke cases, including 2722 cerebral infarctions, 363 intracerebral hemorrhages, 160 subarachnoid hemorrhages, and 435 unspecified strokes, were ascertained. High intakes of total fiber and fiber from fruits and vegetables but not from cereals were inversely associated with risk of stroke.

DHA [fish oil] suppresses peanut and whey allergies – Background: Supplementation with long-chain n–3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFAs) has been found to reduce the development of allergic disease. Conclusions: The DHA-rich fish oil diet reduced allergic sensitization to whey and allergic symptoms in both PE- and whey-allergic mice. These data suggest that DHA-rich fish oil is useful as an intervention to prevent or treat food allergy symptoms.

Vitamin D deficiency causes progression of knee osteoarthritis – Participants with low vitamin D had >2-fold elevated risk of knee osteoarthritis progression compared with those with greater vitamin D concentrations ≥600 IU per day.

Reasonable evidence is provided to support the inference that a biotin intake at least 2–3 times the AI is likely needed to meet the requirement of pregnancy.

Low Vitamin B-12, folate, thiamin and riboflavin intakes are associated with greater obesity in children – Micronutrient status may be a contributing factor to the development of childhood obesity in many industrializing countries passing the nutritional transition. Similar inverse associations between  body adiposity  and status of both vitamin B-12 and folate and intake of thiamin and riboflavin suggest that these micronutrients may play a role in adipogenesis and risk of childhood obesity.
