2. Dairy products preserve your bones – [Lactoferrin (LF) is a major protein in dairy foods.] Lactoferrin (LF) is reported to stimulate osteoblast proliferation and inhibit osteoclast activity in bone cell culture…These findings indicated that oral LF not only preserved bone mass but also improved bone microarchitecture.

3. High milk intake has hazard – Folate receptor (FR)-blocking autoantibodies (FR-autoantibodies) have been reported in women with neural tube defect-affected pregnancies and subfertility and in children with progressive neurodevelopment disorders. ..Higher milk intake is associated with increased risk of having FR-autoantibodies.

4. High vitamin D levels needed for strong bones – When vitamin D deficiency was defined as a serum 25(OH)D concentration of ≤50 nmol/L and severe deficiency as <25 nmol/L, 57.8% of subjects were vitamin D deficient and 31.2% were severely deficient…[2,000IU of vitamin D daily is probably required to avoid deficiency.] These findings suggest that adequate vitamin D status during adolescence is important for optimizing bone mass, which may lead to higher peak bone mass at maturity. Poor vitamin D status also compromises forearm muscle strength.

5. Low-glycemic index (high fiber) breakfast increases burning fat when exercising – Consuming low-glycemic index (LGI) carbohydrates (CHO) before endurance exercise results in increased fat oxidation during exercise in trained men and women…Consuming a LGI breakfast increases fat oxidation during subsequent exercise and improves satiety during recovery in sedentary females.

6. Curcumin inhibits obesity – [500 mg curcumin/kg diet for 12 wk.] Angiogenesis is necessary for the growth of adipose tissue. Dietary polyphenols may suppress growth of adipose tissue through their antiangiogenic activity and by modulating adipocyte metabolism…The curcumin suppression of angiogenesis in adipose tissue together with its effect on lipid metabolism in adipocytes may contribute to lower body fat and body weight gain. 10. Phytochemicals like in curcumin reduce chronic inflammation – Phytochemicals may reduce chronic inflammation and cancer risk in part by modulating T-cell nuclear factor-{kappa}B (NF-{kappa}B) activation…These results suggest that combination chemotherapy (FO+Cur or Lim) may favorably modulate CD4+ T-cell–mediated inflammation.

11. Soy is not likely to contribute to breast cancer – Soy isoflavones have functional similarity to human estrogens and may protect against breast cancer as a result of their antiestrogenic activity or increase risk as a result of their estrogen-like properties. ..These findings offer reassurance that isoflavones do not act like hormone replacement medication on breast density.

12. Seaweed and soy foods help prevent breast cancer – Seaweed and soy foods are consumed daily in Japan, where breast cancer rates for postmenopausal women are significantly lower than in the West…Seaweed favorably alters estrogen and phytoestrogen metabolism and these changes likely include modulation of colonic bacteria.

13. Soybean product intake reduces risk of stomach cancer – In this study, our aim was to investigate the association of inflammation-related genetic polymorphisms and gastric cancer risk and to examine whether the combined effect of soybean product intake modified cancer risk…Our results suggest that the association between IL-10 genetic polymorphisms and gastric cancer risk was modified by soybean product intake.

14. DHA (fish oil) beneficial by raising HDL and decreases triglycerides – In a trial of 74 healthy people aged 19–43 y., randomly assigned to 1 of 3 interventions and consumed a total intake of 4.4 g/d ALA (ALA group), 2.2 g/d EPA (EPA group), and 2.3 g/d DHA (DHA group) for 6 wk. [DHA was especially beneficial by lowering triglycerides, raising HDL and enriching LDL with omega-3 fats.] EPA and ALA were beneficial but did not raise HDL.
