I have a genetic test done to determine which meds work best for the child. My son is autistic and we spent months trying to find meds that worked for him through trial and error. Then when a new doctor got involved it was suggested we get a test done from genesite. It has been huge and really narrowed down the meds searching.
My son (12), diagnosed with ASD, ADHD, ADD, started taking Guanfacine (4mg) about 6 weeks ago. It took us 4 weeks to build up to the full dose and once we got there, we’ve had better days than we’ve had in YEARS.
My 14-year-old also has ADHD and ASD, and after two years of trial and error, we have found a good combination in Prozac and Qelbree, which is a new non-stimulant ADHD med. Guanfacine turned him into a total zombie–he slept all the time, when he was awake he was just totally blah, zoned out and not interested in anything at all.
My 10yr old just reached the end of the road with Ritalin: too much raging.
