Arthritis
First comments from Roc: What the literature suggests for arthritis pain. After this, there are many explanations. But as about 50% of my readers suffer from arthritis, here is my short recommendation. Items 1-6 are antioxidants, which will relieve inflammation which causes many age-associated diseases.
- Astaxanthin – a xanthophyll carotenoid, is the most abundant carotenoid in marine organisms and is one of the most powerful natural compounds with remarkable antioxidant activity, that particularly targets mitochondria, the main organelle that degrades with age.
- beta-hydroxybutyrate – Another important way to reduce/prevent osteoarthritis. Systemic β-Hydroxybutyrate can be increased either through a ketogenic diet ordietary supplementation. Senescence chondrocytes play an important role in Osteoarthritis progression. BHB alleviate the chondrocytes senescence under oxidative stress.
3. ellagic acid – EA has also been well documented for its antiallergic, antiatherosclerotic, cardioprotective, hepatoprotective, nephroprotective, and neuroprotective properties.
- Mito-C, which I designed, is to slow misfolding of proteins, which slows a major contributor to arthritis.
- fish oil – reduces inflammation
- olive oil– reduces inflammation
- resveratrol– reduces inflammation
- vitamin D– reduces inflammation
- 50% of people find that glucosamineand chondroitin supplements after a month of use provide some relief.
If you go to my products page, you will find links to where I buy each product, what it costs, and why I take them.
READER QUESTION: Arthritis: I’m 82, in good health except for osteoarthritis in my neck (very bad) and lower back. This has been ongoing for 20 years to varying degrees. I am very invested and knowledgeable about vitamins and supplements and am looking for a good suggestion for magnesium since I know this is good for my situation. I bought some tablets that were so huge I couldn’t swallow them. I’ve done some research and I know the issues with diarrhea and I want one with good absorption thus my question. The chiropractor sells gummies but didn’t want to buy until I had more info. I also take boswellia extract, Qunol Ultra COQ10, flaxseed oil 1250 mg gelcaps for dry eyes, D3 25 mcg for low vit D, and 500 mg Ester C plus 3x/day and by Rx amitriptyline 10 mg (lowest dose) at bedtime for the fibromyalgia, which I have had since I was 50 following a torn rotator cuff.
ROC RESPONDS: Either too much or too little is hazard for rheumatoid arthritis, and the same is likely true for osteoarthritis. “Relationship between dietary magnesium intake and rheumatoid arthritis in US women: a cross-sectional study” involving 13,324 women. There was a U-shaped relationship between dietary magnesium and RA in women, and our study highlights the importance of moderate dietary magnesium intake in https://bmjopen.bmj.com/content/10/11/e039640possibly exerting a protective role in women with RA.

Here is a great article Source of Chronic Inflammation in Aging
Here is a paragraph on inflammation prevention.
A variety of other supplements I take reduce inflammation, which contributes to and aggravates arthritis progression and pain. These include fish oil, olive oil, resveratrol, and vitamin D.
June 2023 – Newly discovered safe and helpful supplements are beta-hydroxybutyrate and ellagic aicd.
Beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) – Another important way to reduce/prevent osteoarthritis. Systemic β-Hydroxybutyrate can be increased either through a ketogenic diet or
dietary supplementation. Senescence chondrocytes play an important role in Osteoarthritis progression. BHB alleviate the chondrocytes senescence under oxidative stress.
Ellagic Acid: A Review on Its Natural Sources, Chemical Stability, and Therapeutic Potential. [2022] Ellagic acid (EA) is a bioactive polyphenolic compound naturally occurring as secondary metabolite in many plant taxa. EA content is considerable in pomegranate . EA is attracting attention due to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimutagenic, and antiproliferative properties. EA displayed pharmacological effects in various in vitro and in vivo model systems. Furthermore, EA has also been well documented for its antiallergic, antiatherosclerotic, cardioprotective, hepatoprotective, nephroprotective, and neuroprotective properties.
Mild exercise is also important to ease arthritis. Walking, stretching, yoga, swimming and Tai Chi are examples of activities that, though they may be painful, actually reduce arthritis progression because compression of joints allows circulation of fluid, clearance of waste, and health of cells that produce joint cells and lining.
from oz10 on GRG 210425 – # 1 on my list is Bioastin 12 mg per day. I read about it here on the GRG email list from other members and after about a week of use, I actually cancelled an appointment I had scheduled with an orthopedic pain specialist. Other supplements are fish oil, evening primrose oil, SamE 400 mgs, Pterostilbene 150 mg, Zyflamend, Woebenzyme, MSM 500 mgs, Life Extension, Advanced Curcumin Elite, Shark Cartilage, Irwin Inflamma-Less, Reservage Ultra Collagen Booster, Devils Claw, Boron, and Boswellia. IAS in London recently sent out a sample of their product called Pain Pro which I also like and plan to reorder. I was a runner for many years and pretty much wore my cartilage down to a level 4 bone on bone. Other interventions which I have tried and found helpful are Hocatt ozone saunas, Senolytics (dasatinib and quercetin) and stem cell injection. I also own and use a BEMER and a BIOMAT. While all this may sound like a lot, the good news is that I have managed to avoid knee replacement and walk several miles a day with intermittent jogging. I have read that arthritis sufferers should avoid eating nightshade vegetables, but I do seem able to consume good quantities of tomatoes without ill effect. I have however noticed that any sugar consumption is detrimental and proinflammatory. One I really like is a liquid hyaluronic acid called Synthovial 7 recommended to me by a pharmacist. I also take bromelaine, cayenne pepper and arnica montana. Topically, I’ve tried many and my favorite right now is Plus CBD oil hemp balm which has 100 mgs of CBD
from WF at GRG 210425 – I have osteoarthritis in my joints at 71 flaring up. Currently I use magnets, PEMF, and a laser(K-Laser) to treat my joint pain successfully. Another product I tried is X39, kind of woo woo but it works and is maybe the easiest to use. Not many good results from supplements. CBD caps and creams work.
from TI at GRG 210426 – Senolytics — quercetin and Dasatinib should thicken the joints or at least slow it down.
Thymosin Beta peptide repairs; Bpc -157 peptide repairs; Longvida Curcumin; Localized stem cells; Injected HGH; Glucosamine and chondroitin; Get checked for micronutrient levels; Cut out fructose.; Do resistance training and keep moving; Get the nutraeval test by Genova diagnostics and search for clues with a 5 star naturopath or functional MD
GRG- For hand arthritis, you might look into “Yoga Tuneup” on line and MELT therapy, both of which involve ball therapy which I have found extremely useful and practice daily. I collect and use rubber balls of various sizes (depending on which body part I’m rolling out). Easy at home practice for feet, hands, knees, neck, shoulders, back, thighs, etc.
GRG- Instead of knee replacement, PRP is when the doctor takes blood from the patient and concentrates the platelets in a centrifuge. The product that’s created is called platelet-rich plasma (PRP). All of those platelets release growth factors and other things like exosomes that can help healing. Read more here.
GRG – I don’t know where you have arthritis but we have old Russian folk recipe. If it is accessible part of the body like fingers or arm you need to keep the finger in a warm water and then rub it with Castor Spirit, warm up again and rub, warm up and rub… Do it for 7-10 min. 2-3 times a day for at list 10-14 days. It should help, at least it helped to few people I know. After such treatment they never had problem with arthritis again. Maybe you want to try?
