AARP Jan/Feb 26 – pg 18- Slash your diabetes risk-25% reduction in risk if you skip sugary drinks; 17% reduction if you stop ultraprocessed foods; 12% reduction if you walk 2,000 steps a day; 17% less risk if you lift weights 60 minutes a week; 45% less if you go to bed earlier at a regular time; 72% less if you lose 5% of your weight.

 

65% of adults middle aged or older have prediabetes, and 80% of them do not know it.

 

Platelet-rich plasma therapy is very popular for arthritis, hair loss, vocal cord repair, erectile disfunction, vaginal atrophy, infertility, dry eyes, and skin rejuvenation. But it is not accepted by the medical establishment or health insurance. Osteoarthritis Society recommends against it.

The Economist Jan 17 pg 73-RFK Jr’s diet advice has many problems.  Nutritionists are angered about his endorsement of Trump’s diet of MacDonalds hamburgers and fries.  Butter and beef fat are not healthy fats, they increase cholesterol, heart disease and strokes.  One should eat unsaturated fats from vegetable oils, esp. olive oil.  His protein recommendation is also too high. 0.8 g/kg body weight, not 1.6 g. His advice would require eating 17 eggs a day.  Pg 74-Violence did not make the modern world.  There has been a dramatic decline in violence over the centuries.  Homicide rates since the 14th century have declined 70 fold in Germany, 200 fold in Italy, and 50 fold in Spain.
