LONG NOTES:
I am writing a book this summer related to health. I have just been working on the Chapter on Stroke. This data may help convince you to take vitamin C or Mito-C twice a day.
People in the US on average have very low levels of vitamin C in their blood. People in Japan have much higher levels of vitamin C. The rate of strokes in the US is more than two and a half times greater in the US.
There are clear mechanisms justifying how having a high level of vitamin C in your blood prevents strokes, and lowers your risk for brain damage if you have a stroke. As my research in 1994 proved for the first time, a person should take 500 mg once in the morning and again at night to keep their blood serum at a high level of vitamin C. This has tremendous health benefits, in particular reducing your risk of having a stroke when you are older.
Here is the actual data. Age-standardized stroke mortality rates have significantly decreased in Japan, from 98 per 100,000 in men and 69 in women in 1990 to 33 in men and 18 in women in 2019. In the United States, the age-adjusted stroke incidence rate for men is approximately 269 per 100,000 population, more than 2.5 times the rate in Japan. Analyses revealed total VC intake in the US below the estimated average requirement (EAR) increased from 38.1% to 46.5% between 1999-2018. VC intake and serum VC levels were inversely associated with markers of pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes. In the United States, the average serum vitamin C level is around 51-53 μmol/L. A study on middle-aged Japanese individuals reported mean serum vitamin C levels of 61 μmol/L for men and 75 μmol/L for women Atherosclerosis Journal.
In Japan, people are informed about the value of vitamin C in reducing stroke risk. In the US, it seems the pharmaceutical and medical industries prefer to profit off medications after you have the stroke.
