SHORT NOTES:  GRG suggestions how to relieve arthritis:  Ellagic acid, Curcumin, Boswellia Serrata, White Willow Bark, astaxanthin;  Nuts are an energy-dense food, yet regular consumption is not associated with weight gain; any level of alcohol consumption is a risk factor for total fractures, moderate drinking is related to a reduction in the risk of osteoporotic and hip fractures; omega-3 fatty acid supplementation showed beneficial effects on CV myocardial infarction; Legume consumption lowers BP in obese people; Greater intake of whole grains, compared to refined grains, is consistently associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes; consumption of consumption of artificially sweetened beverages was associated with a higher risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes, all-cause mortality, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease incidence; a healthy lifestyle reduces the risk of Breast cancer by about 30%; among the dietary sources of protein, the risk of inflammatory bowel disease increased only with increasing total meat intake, and the consumption of protein from dairy products was found to be a protective factor against the IBD risk;  Muscle strength and physical function improvements, particularly in healthy older adults, is likely owing, we propose, to the correction of vitamin D insufficiency, not addition of whey protein; most interventions were not effective in modulating the gut microbiome to influence energy metabolism [DARN!]; magnesium loss must be prevented by adequate intake of magnesium-rich foods such as seeds, nuts, spinach, or rice; Mediterranean diet-based interventions have a significant effect on reducing the body mass index as well as reducing obesity in children and adolescents; Individual amino acids are widely popular as supplements because of various perceived and real health benefits. The goal of this narrative review is to summarize the studies on 6 essential amino acids (leucine, tryptophan, methionine, lysine, histidine, and phenylalanine), 2 nonessential amino acids (arginine and serine), and 2 nonproteinogenic amino acids (ornithine and citrulline). Tested amino acids are well tolerated; Low-income and food-insecure households are at risk of poor dietary quality and even more severe food insecurity. Especially in childhood, consuming a nutritionally adequate diet is an essential driver of health, growth, and development; over the period of 2020 to 2021; the College projects more than 200,000 openings for RNs each year between now and 2031. LONG NOTES:

GRG suggestions how to relieve arthritis:

1-Systematic review of the effects of pomegranate (Ellagic acid) on osteoarthritis
2- Curcumin: taken mixed with olive oil

3- Boswellia Serrata: as a tincture and taken mixed with olive oil

4- White Willow Bark:No human trials but in rats:

5- 12 to 24 mg per day of astaxanthin for arthritis

Adv Nut July– Nuts are an energy-dense food, yet regular consumption is not associated with weight gain.  The lower-than-expected metabolizable energy  may explain a lack of association between nut intake and body weight;

Alcohol Consumption and Risk of Fractures- Our findings show that any level of alcohol consumption is a risk factor for total fractures. Moreover, this dose–response meta-analysis shows that an alcohol consumption level of 0 to 22 g/d is related to a reduction in the risk of osteoporotic and hip fractures;

The Potential Cardiometabolic Effects of Long-Chain ω-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids- Various health-related effects of long-chain (LC) ω-3 PUFAs, EPA, and DHA have been suggested. Of 17 studies involving 143,410 people, LC ω-3 PUFA supplementation showed beneficial effects on CV death and fatal or nonfatal MI.  Studies of both the EPA/DHA combination and EPA alone showed a significant increase in risk of new-onset atrial fibrillation;

Legume consumption lowers BP in obese people; Greater intake of whole grains, compared to refined grains, is consistently associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes, both of which are associated with cognitive decline. The available, although limited, evidence suggests that greater whole-grain intake is associated with better mood and anxiety-related scores and is inconclusive regarding cognitive outcomes;

The consumption of artificially sweetened beverages (ASBs) is increasing in some countries. However, some meta-analyses have found that habitual consumers of ASBs (compared with low or no consumption) had an increased risk on some health outcomes. The consumption of ASBs was associated with a higher risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes, all-cause mortality, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease incidence;

Breast cancer (BC) poses an important burden of disease, which probably could be reduced by adopting healthy lifestyles like healthy body weight, healthy diet, and physical activity, among others. Many studies have reported that adherence to healthy lifestyles may decrease BC risk. Adherence to a healthy lifestyle reduces the risk of BC by about 30%;

We aimed to conduct this dose-dependent meta-analysis to examine the relation between total protein, animal protein, and its sources with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Overall, among the dietary sources of protein, the risk of IBD increased only with increasing total meat intake, and the consumption of protein from dairy products was found to be a protective factor against the IBD risk;

Muscle strength and physical function improvements, particularly in healthy older adults, is likely owing, we propose, to the correction of vitamin D insufficiency, not addition of whey protein;

The gut microbiome has a profound influence on host physiology, including energy metabolism, which is the process by which energy from nutrients is transformed into other forms of energy to be used by the body. Studies have found no consistent gut microbiome patterns associated with energy metabolism, and most interventions were not effective in modulating the gut microbiome to influence energy metabolism [DARN!];

magnesium has a key role in energy metabolism and in metabolic and signaling pathways that maintain liver function and physiology throughout its life span. Risk of developing liver pathologies increases with age, and hypomagnesemia may be a contributing factor. Therefore, magnesium loss must be prevented by adequate intake of magnesium-rich foods such as seeds, nuts, spinach, or rice to prevent age-related hepatic alterations;

The aim of the present meta-analysis was to evaluate the effects of Mediterranean diet-based interventions on anthropometric and obesity indicators among children and adolescents. Mediterranean diet-based interventions have a significant effect on reducing the body mass index as well as reducing obesity in children and adolescents (aged 3–18 y);

Individual amino acids are widely popular as supplements because of various perceived and real health benefits. The goal of this narrative review is to summarize the studies on 6 essential amino acids (leucine, tryptophan, methionine, lysine, histidine, and phenylalanine), 2 nonessential amino acids (arginine and serine), and 2 nonproteinogenic amino acids (ornithine and citrulline) and provide the first set of ULs.  The data suggest that in relatively healthy adult individuals, the tested amino acids are well tolerated;

Low-income and food-insecure households are at risk of poor dietary quality and even more severe food insecurity. Especially in childhood, consuming a nutritionally adequate diet is an essential driver of health, growth, and development. The 5 themes around which the studies grouped were: parental behaviors, child/adolescent behaviors, food procurement behaviors, food preparation behaviors, and household environment factors. The themes identified were interrelated and suggest that incorporating education on parent and child behaviors that influence food procurement and preparation, along with strengthening organization and planning in the household environment, may hold promise to improve dietary quality and food security among food-insecure and low-income households. The findings can be used to inform future nutrition education interventions aimed at improving dietary quality and food security in households with school-aged children.

From Kevin Fickenscher-over the period of 2020 to 2021 there was a drop of more than 100,000 registered nurses in the USA. Furthermore, the College projects more than 200,000 openings for RNs each year between now and 2031. Why? It’s largely because we Boomers and GenXers are moving toward retirement at a slower pace at best. Furthermore, as the USA moves from 52 million (2018) over the age of 65 to nearly 100 million (2060) the impact on care delivery will be even more dramatic. (So stay healthy! Exercise! Mediterranean diet! Happy thoughts! Friends!)

New Clock: People Who Exercise Are Biologically Younger

There is also an association with better short-term memory. With age, DNA methylation patterns change and affect the activity of different genes [2]. Different activities, like exercise, can impact the speed of those changes.

New treatment for chronic kidney disease. Nephrospec. It uses an acoustic wave treatment called eHAT to treat chronic kidney disease (CKD) by promoting new blood vessel formation and restoring damaged tissue function.

US approves synthetic eye tissue. The US FDA has approved a synthetic tissue substitute for the eye that will address the worldwide shortage of donors. The EverPatch from Israel’s CorNeat Vision (see here previously) is made of a polymer that stimulates the cells to accept it and reinforce the sclera (outer layer of the eyeball).

No more peanut allergies. Researchers at Israel’s Sheba Medical Center and Volcani Institute have developed a powder made from unripe peanuts that weans children off peanut allergies. There are no allergenic proteins in unripe peanuts, and food made from their powder (cookies, pancakes etc.) will slowly desensitize the allergy.
