SUBJ: Stress overwhelms the hippocampus

SUBtitle: vitamin D is an excellent candidate for delaying aging

Take a lot of deep breaths.  December is a very stressful month for most people.  I am grateful for knowing so many easy ways to live a healthy life.

LONG NOTES:

Sci. 25 Nov pg 870 Stress overwhelms the hippocampus. Especially in early years of life, stress can permanently damage memory function.

The role of vitamin D on redox regulation and cellular senescence. Vitamin D is considered an essential micronutrient for human health that is metabolized into a multifunctional secosteroid hormone. Vitamin D can attenuate oxidative stress and delay cellular senescence, mainly by inducing the expression of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and Klotho and improving mitochondrial homeostasis, proposing this vitamin as an excellent candidate for delaying aging. Highlights. Vitamin D non-canonical effects influence age-related diseases. Its analogs and metabolites can enhance therapeutic action and avoid side effects. Redox regulation by vitamin D is mediated by its antioxidant and mitohormetic action. Vitamin D properties modulating cellular senescence seem useful in senotherapeutics.

Association Between Consumption of Ultraprocessed Foods and Cognitive Decline.  In a cohort study of 10 ,775 individuals, higher consumption of ultraprocessed foods was associated with a higher rate of global and executive function decline after a median follow-up of 8 years.

Senescent cells are useful to stimulate innate and adaptive immune responses in cancer tumors. Tumors contain senescent cells that stimulate innate and adaptive immune responses against the tumor. So removing senescent cells may be a dangerous way to prolong healthspan.

Sci. 25 Nov pg 827 – A universal mRNA influenza vaccine is being developed for animals.  Since new influenza variants come from birds, pigs and other animals to people each year, this vaccine for animals is likely to reduce the risk for humans.

Our behaviors can impact on our brain’s ability and functionality. And, one of the biggest factors in maintaining good brain health is engaging in learning behaviors. He notes that while Wordle, Soduko, crossword puzzles and the like are useful in maintaining capabilities through the use of “existing” knowledge, it is critically important to also engage in activities that “increase” our knowledge pool through learning behaviors – outside of our existing areas of expertise. “Socialization” is a good way of staving off dementia

I did a search about crohn’s disease treatment.  It is linked on my disease index page on my upgraded website.

Insulin resistance is 100 percent reversible. Mark Hyman, MD

If you want to learn more about my blood sugar-friendly, disease-fighting protocol, preorder my book Young Forever. You’ll learn the science of insulin resistance, how to defeat it, and how to turn on your longevity switches and achieve optimal health. This is my guidebook to healthy aging.

In mid-November, the CDC reported that Omicron subvariants BQ.1 and BQ.1.1 were accounting for about 44.2% of all COVID for that time period. This was compared to 32.6% of cases during the first week of November.

A recent ranking by Forbes on the burden of health care costs continues to point to disparities across the nation. On average in 2020, healthcare costs averaged $10,000 per person. 27% of survey respondents said they have delayed a doctor’s visit, 19% delayed a medical procedure and 19% avoided a prescription refill. Just over half of USA primary care physicians under age 55 report being burned out and 45% plan to stop seeing patients within the next three years.

Key Trends In Rejuvenation Medicine- A utube video I have not watched

Boosting intracellular NAD levels: An interview with Dr. Jin-Xiong She which I have not watched

AARP Joint pain – About 70 percent of adults age 50 and older experience joint pain at least occasionally, and 60 percent have been told they have some form of arthritis, Exercise, More than half (66 percent) of poll respondents who have joint pain report taking over-the-counter pain relievers to quell it. Short-term use of these medications can be helpful, Twenty-six percent of poll respondents say they turn to supplements like glucosamine and chondroitin to help manage joint pain, but osteoarthritis guidelines don’t recommend them, due to scant scientific evidence. A 2016 study published in Arthritis & Rheumatology found these supplements, when given in combination, had the opposite effect, Steroid injections

An option for some osteoarthritis patients if other therapies fail, Nearly 20 percent of poll respondents said they get steroid injections to help manage joint pain

WebMD-foods to calm anxiety- Say No to Ice Cream, Say Yes to Berries, almost any leafy green (magnesium), oatmeal, dark chocolate, oysters (zinc), oranges (vitamin C), fish (omega 3), tea, Cabbage has folic acid, vitamin C, and some B vitamins that may help ease anxiety. If it’s left to ferment (sauerkraut) — stew in its own juices — bacteria break down sugar and other things and make it taste sour. These “good” bacteria help keep your gut healthy. They also play a part in making serotonin, a calming brain chemical, You can get B vitamins from avocados and almonds, but they don’t have B12 like liver!
