LONG NOTES:
Paxlovid is useful for people over 65 and with special vulnerabilities, but not useful for younger people. Side effect is metallic taste in the mouth.
Low dose minoxidil may promote regrowth of hair on balding heads. The authors proposed the following dosing for low dose minoxidil based on response and tolerability: Females: Starting dose of 0.5 mg/day followed by 0.25 mg increments every 3 months up to a maximum dose of 2.5 mg/day. Males: Starting dose of 2.5 mg/day followed by 1.25 mg increments every 3 months up to a maximum dose of 5 mg/day.
Recent findings from a multi-year study of over 300 participants with mild cognitive impairment suggests that regular exercise, either aerobic or not, may help slow the progression of cognitive decline.
Science 10 Aug pg 818 – Toward Preventing Parkinson’s disease – New biomarker may show disease years before symptoms occur – [Exercise, coffee, and Mito-C may reduce risk]
Why we gain weight with age – our metabolisms don’t really start to decline again until after age 60.
The Effect of Metabolites on Mitochondrial Functions in the Pathogenesis of Skeletal Muscle Aging – Multiple studies have demonstrated that 1) serum concentration of BCAAs decreases in patients with sarcopenia in comparison to elderly people without sarcopenia, 2) tryptophan, glutamate, taurine, and vitamin D are deficient, 3) too much fat in diet. Intestinal microbiota have been considered as a hidden metabolic organ of human beings. Although the underlying mechanism needs to be studied further, the existing research evidence shows that the metabolites of intestinal microbiota, especially short-chain fatty acids (SCFA), are key intermediates affecting the gut-muscle axis. Oxidative stress can lead to apoptosis, imbalance in monocyte dynamics, and nitric oxide (NO) inactivation, leading to inflammation and endothelial-dependent vasodilation. Firstly, amino acids (mainly BCAA, tryptophan, taurine, and aspartate) and LCFA (mainly palmitic acid and stearic acid) regulate the biogenesis, function, and dynamics of mitochondria through the mTOR signaling pathway. Amino acids are the positive regulatory drivers of the mTORC1. mTORC1 activates mitochondrial respiration and ATP production by stimulating the translation of nuclear-encoded mitochondrial related mRNA to meet the high-energy demands of muscle cells. mTORC1 is also involved in selective mitochondrial autophagy, which is a quality control mechanism that can ensure the recovery and removal of damaged mitochondria.
The Role of Resveratrol (RSV) in Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer’s Disease (AD): A Systematic Review – Both anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects can be related to preventing neurodegenerative diseases, doing maintenance, and enabling the recovery of these conditions directly related to inflammation and oxidative stress. We suggest that the use of RSV can bring beneficial effects to patients with MCI or AD.
Mitochondria-targeted senotherapeutic interventions-It still remains unclear why dysfunctional mitochondria occupy a central position in the development senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP). Killing of senescent cells and/or ameliorate their SASP-related negative effects are currently considered to be effective mitochondria-directed gerotherapeutic approaches for fighting against age-related disorders.
How to reduce the production of LDL – Diet, exercise, weight loss, control sugar intake, get fish oil.
As many as 81 percent of patients intentionally withhold the truth from their doctors about how often they exercise, what or how much they eat, whether they regularly take a prescription medicine as instructed or if they’ve ever taken someone else’s medication
Warning of atrial fibrillation: An uneven pulse-A racing or pounding heart , A feeling that your heart is fluttering, Chest pain, Feeling short of breath, Lightheaded or dizziness
Melatonin is best known for helping with sleep issues like jet lag, insomnia, and delayed sleep phase, a disorder that causes you to go to sleep later and wake up later. early studies show the hormone can affect your body temperature and lower nighttime blood pressure if you have hypertension. also might be helpful for macular degeneration, gastroesophageal reflux disease (heartburn), tinnitus (ringing in the ears), and migraines. Take just enough melatonin to get the job done, starting with 0.3 milligram to 1 milligram.
Disrupting tumor’s defenses. Researchers at Israel’s Bar-Ilan University have developed nanotechnology that prevents tumors from disabling the body’s Natural Killer (NK) cells. They used RNA molecules to stop the NK cells from expressing the gene that the tumor attacks. The NK cell is then free to destroy the tumor.
An international team of researchers led by Israel’s Weizmann Institute, has used macrophages (good viruses) to kill inflammation-causing gut bacteria that cause inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) such as Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s. “Good” bacteria are not harmed. (1) (2) (3)
From Kevin Fichenscher: The Evolving Pandemic Precipitated Mental Health Crisis – There has been an alarming rise in depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts for years and interventions seem to be slow in coming.
In recent years, the federal and many state governments have passed laws to increase methadone access as a treatment modality for opioid use disorder. According to data recently published in JAMA Psychiatry access to methadone during the pandemic did not increase the risk of overdose death. In fact, the data shows clearly that the percent of methadone-involved overdose deaths relative to all drug overdose deaths declined between January 2019 and August 2021.
