Daily values for vitamins were established in the US during WWII for soldiers. But higher doses are required for long life. I discovered the first, for vitamin C. Many other vitamins require far more than the RDA for long term health.

BIOGRAPHY
Roc Ordman is a biochemistry professor emeritus who has studied how to extend healthspan since 1980. His research was the banner headline of USA Today when he discovered the optimum dosage of vitamin C, 500 mg twice a day. He has developed other supplements to prevent cancer recurrence and prevent a major cause of aging, protein misfolding. These activities have caused him to have many encounters with the Food and Drug Administration, causing him to write this book. In particular, nutritional supplements are not allowed to make health claims. In this book, he evaluates many that are “safe and proven” to extend your healthspan. Born in 1948, he explains that when he is 130, you will know his guidance about how to stay healthy is correct.
