How much fish oil to take?
Roc Ordman used to take 2g fish oil daily. As the fish oil page explains, it is an essential fatty acid for your brain that you cannot synthesize. It reduces inflammation by producing anti-inflammatory molecules and promoting HDL, the “good” cholesterol. But it was found in 2020 that one must have the proper amount of HDL – too much or too little is hazardous to health. As I eat a healthy diet with enough exercise, last time I went to the doctor, I discovered my HDL was too high. So I have cut down from taking 2g daily to just 1g a day.
2022 – People with higher levels of omega-3 DHA in their blood are 49% less likely to develop dementia than those with lower levels. Researchers say adding additional omega-3 DHA to the diet, especially in those with the Alzheimer’s associated Apoe4 gene, could slow the development and progress of dementia.
