Genistein

Genistein is a natural compound found in soy. It has been used reduce symptoms of menopause and to help control blood glucose. It has also been used to help lower chances of prostate and breast cancer. Inhibition of prostaglandin-degrading enzyme 15-PGDH rejuvenates aged muscle mass and strength.  15-PGDH may be a suitable therapeutic target for countering sarcopenia. Genistein inhibits 15-PGDH.. On this evidence, Roc began taking 125 mg daily. When I first checked for safety, a hospital website reported that Genistein is safe as a supplement.

2023 – Due to the neuroprotective, anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory properties, Genistein (GEN)  is used to restore or improve memory functions in different animal models and humans.

HAZARD: However, the next day a colleague provided links indicating that genistein may be hazardous to health. Cancer Res. 1997 Sep 1;57(17):3717-22.

Although the last citation is the scariest, it is an association based on NHANES data rather than a clinical trial. On that basis, I would be cautious about using Genistein.
