ALCAR N-Acetyl carnitine

N-acetyl carnitine is a naturally occurring molecule which transports fatty acids into the mitochondria so that fat can be metabolized ( burned) with oxygen to produce ATP for energy. One reason people burn less fat with age and have less energy is because they produce less ALCAR naturally with age. Dr. Bruce Ames discovered this. He also discovered we make less alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) with age, and that molecule is the first one necessary for the citric acid cycle in the mitochondria to burn carbon molecules like fat to produce ATP. So most comments about ALCAR and ALA are combined on the ALA page here.
