LONG NOTES:

Science 23 Apr pg 381 – The weight of the world on the brain – The environment contributes to differences between an individual’s predicted age from brain imaging data and their chronological age. Legaz et al. analyzed the effects of 73 environmental factors on the structure and function of the brain across 18,701 people from 34 countries. Physical adversity, including lack of green spaces, heavy rain, poor water quality, and pollution, was primarily associated with structural brain aging, whereas social adversity, including socioeconomic inequality, low gross domestic product, poverty, limited rule of law, and decreased participation, representation, and welfare, was more associated with functional aging. These associations were found in people with and without neurological diseases. The effects of these factors on brain aging were cumulative, highlighting the importance of the early identification of populations at risk.

Factors Affecting Sleep Quality in Pregnant Women During the Second Trimester and Its Association with Birth Outcomes. Clinically, it is crucial to enhance sleep quality screening during the second trimester and provide targeted interventions for high-risk groups to improve maternal and infant outcomes.

Acupuncture with the Sancai Acupoint Matching Method for Primary Insomnia: A Randomized Controlled Trial. The Sancai acupoint matching method is a safe and effective treatment for primary insomnia, significantly improving patients’ subjective sleep quality, emotional symptoms, and objective sleep parameters, and upregulating peripheral blood levels of 5-HT and BDNF. These findings support the clinical application of this acupuncture protocol and provide a foundation for subsequent mechanistic studies.
