LONG NOTES:
Look at food waste book Nutrition Security for Planetary Health, Irana Hawkins-key steps to planetary health – eat less meat, waste less food
Diet can directly influence brain aging. Researchers from Israel’s Ben Gurion University and in Harvard and Leipzog, have uncovered innovative biological evidence that diet can directly influence brain aging. The Good Mediterranean Diet reduced proteins Galectin-9 and Decorin, which were very high in degenerated brain ages.
NPR reports that taking niacin supplements reduces the risk for skin cancer.
The authors appear to infer anti-aging benefits of Thymol which is contained in Thyme (highest) and Oregano. Herbal terpenoids, specifically thymol and carvacrol from thyme and oregano, act as activators of autophagy and mitophagy
Older adults can bounce back to thriving health, study finds. nearly one in four older adults age 60 or older who reported poor well-being at the beginning of a national study—due to pain, health issues, low mood, or isolation—had regained optimal well-being within just three years. Individuals who reported strong psychological and emotional wellness at the outset were over five times more likely to achieve this very high bar of ‘optimal well-being’ than those who were struggling with psychological well-being at baseline. Other baseline characteristics significantly associated with recovery included maintaining a healthy body weight, engaging in regular physical activity, avoiding insomnia, refraining from smoking, and participating in social activities.
North American Olive Oil Association certifies which olive oils are legitimate
Lots of feedback about my Linus Pauling notes. “Long-term use of the ketogenic diet in children increases the risk of slowed or stunted growth, bone fractures, and kidney stones. The diet reduces levels of insulin-like growth factor, which is important for childhood growth. Like many anticonvulsant drugs, the ketogenic diet has an adverse effect on bone health. Besides being more difficult to maintain, ketogenic diets are associated with side effects, especially when the diet includes lots of meat, which they often do.
We have a new AI and Longevity Certificate three course program: https://www.ageotype.com/stanford. Beginning in October, 2025 – The first-of-its-kind hybrid program at the intersection of AI, healthspan, and human futures. Learn directly live from Stanford faculty who teach Stanford students — blending research, AI practice, and entrepreneurship into a first-of-its-kind hybrid program (onsite at Stanford or online).

A clean wound heals faster. (TY Atid-EDI) Israel’s MediWound (see here previously) has successfully completed a Phase III trial that shows its EscharEx topical, non-surgical treatment to wound bed preparation ensures a much quicker recovery for venous leg ulcers. Trials on diabetic foot ulcers are being planned.
Blood test identifies depression treatment. Israel’s NeuroKaire (previously Genetika+ see here) has launched BrightKaire, the world’s first blood test to personalize depression treatment. It uses AI and stem cell tech to match patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) to effective medications. Approved in US and Israel.
Preventing deadly weight loss in cancer patients. Scientists from Israel’s Weizmann Institute, and Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, have discovered the cause of cachexia – deadly weight loss responsible for roughly one-third of global cancer deaths. Targeted blockade of the right vagus nerve could prevent onset of cachexia.
The reason animal study inspired biologics and manufactured perinatal products are not directly translatable into human outcomes. The bottom line is that no matter how insightful or profound what you observe from living animal studies may be, biologics inspired from those observations will not directly translate into human outcomes after those agents become rendered binary and therefore no more bioactive than a manufactured drug or vaccine.
AARP: 8 vaccines you need after 50: flu (annually), covid-19(annually); RSV (only once), PCV pneumonia (once), Tdap (every decade), shingles (one-series), HepA (one-series), hepB (one-series),
Discovery could cure diabetes and cancer. Scientists at Israel’s Ben Gurion University have discovered how cells control energy levels and have developed molecules that lowered blood glucose levels in lab tests. The scientists believe these could form the basis of tools to cure diabetes, cancer, and other metabolic disorders.
Gene therapy for IBD. Tel Aviv University researchers have developed a targeted method of delivering locked nucleic acids (LNAs) using lipid nanoparticles, achieving therapeutic effect against inflammatory bowel disease in preclinical models – without side effects. It could also be used for heart diseases, and Parkinson’s.
Gene therapy to treat hearing loss. Scientists from Tel Aviv University have introduced an innovative gene therapy method to treat impairments in hearing and balance caused by inner ear dysfunction. The research is featured in the EMBO Molecular Medicine magazine and highlighted on its cover.
Minimally invasive heart valve replacement. (TY Hazel) Israel’s TruLeaf Medical (see here previously) successfully implanted its RoseDoc docking device in two patients in India. It is the first step in a two-stage catheter-based procedure to replace faulty tricuspid and mitral valves, without open-heart surgery.
The lifetime risk of developing dementia after age 55 is estimated at 42 percent, according to a 2025 study of over 15,000 participants. The number of Americans developing dementia each year is estimated to increase from 514,000 in 2020 to about 1 million by 2060. About half of dementia cases may be preventable by addressing known risk factors, according to a 2024 Lancet Commission report. In this article
