LONG NOTES:
Science 19 June 2025 pg 1287: Factor OX40 allows (CAR)T cells that cure hematological (in the blood) cancer to penetrate solid tumors. Pg. 1288: artificial sweeteners make atherosclerotic symptoms worse. They cause insulin secretion and inflammation. Pg 1292: Plastic bag bans and fees reduce shoreline litter.
Mitophagy is a specialized form of autophagy (cell self-removal) that performs the selective removal of damaged or dysfunctional mitochondria. Superficially, that would seem to be a very beneficial process. It is a natural cellular quality control process that seems intended to maintain cellular health and to ensure good mitochondria for ATP energy production. There are several small-molecule supplements that are known to be mitophagy boosters: Urolithin A, Spermidine, Curcumin, Quercetin, and Alpha-Lipoic Acid.

Falls, Sleep Disorders and Cognitive Frailty in Hospitalized Older Adults with Hypertension:A Cross-Sectional Study. The incidence of falls was higher among hospitalized older adults with hypertension. Both sleep disorders and Cognitive frailty(CF) were strongly associated with falls in this patient population.
Scientists at Korea University have identified how aging signals travel through the bloodstream, pinpointing a protein called HMGB1 that carries cellular damage from one tissue to distant organs. Their research reveals that the reduced form of this protein acts like a molecular messenger, spreading senescence—the biological state where cells stop dividing and start secreting harmful substances—across the entire body. The discovery explains why aging appears to accelerate over time and offers a potential target for interventions that could slow age-related decline. When researchers blocked HMGB1 in middle-aged mice, the animals showed improved muscle regeneration and better physical performance after injury.
Prior to coming to us, they may have been told the only thing that will help is a joint replacement! But is that correct? The truth is, we see many patients who have received that same report, and we’ve been able to offer them an alternative. Regenerative Orthopedics, such as Prolotherapy, are effective non-surgical options for arthritis, even in older individuals. Studies show that Prolotherapy improves pain level and function, and reduces stiffness, even in the elderly. (1)
