According to a 2020 study, up to half of the US population may be magnesium deficient. This is because the standard diet in the US only contains about half of the recommended daily allowance of magnesium, which is 420 mg for men and 320 mg for women. Whole grains and dark-green, leafy vegetables are good sources of magnesium. Low-fat milk and yogurt contain magnesium.  Dried beans and legumes (such as soybeans, baked beans, lentils, and peanuts) and nuts (such as almonds and cashews) provide magnesium.
