LONG NOTES:

AJCN Sept: The increase in number of such studies now enables determination of the benefits of vitamin D supplementation using a systematic review and meta-analysis of qualified studies. There continues to be strong advocacy for widespread use of vitamin D supplements in children and adolescents. Such advocacy is likely due to awareness of the limited intake of vitamin D rich foods such as oily fish and eggs and few foods with mandatory vitamin D fortification, resulting in vitamin D intakes below the dietary recommendations and evidence of low 25(OH)D levels of <50 nmol/L (20 ng/mL) in older children and adolescents; Adherence to the American Cancer Society (ACS) guidelines of avoiding obesity, maintaining physical activity, and consuming a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains is associated with longer survival in colorectal cancer (CRC) survivors. Dietary components of the ACS guidelines may act in part by changing the microbiome, which is implicated in CRC outcomes; Nutritional strategies for prevention and management of type 2 diabetes traditionally emphasize dietary patterns reflecting nutrient goals, but the health implications of ultraprocessed food (UPF) for patients with type 2 diabetes remain unknown.  Higher UPF consumption was associated with reduced survival and higher CVD mortality rate, independent of diet quality; Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is mainly known as an endogenously produced neurotransmitter. However, GABA intake from dietary sources like tomatoes and fermented foods can be considerable; an alarming proportion of pregnant women in the United States do not consume enough of such critical nutrients as vitamin D, calcium, omega-3 DHA, iron, and others from foods and beverages alone [2]. Dietary supplements make meaningful contributions to the intake of these nutrients in pregnant women, which can help to support healthy pregnancies and maternal/child health.

Wow. Supplement rankings. Although only for a few products, I think this is really a good idea.

Science 25 Aug pg 822-Test AI for consciousness, 14 criteria selected to determine if something is conscious!

Science 18 Aug pg 744-Yang et al developed chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) cells targeting ligands found on senescent cells. The CAR T-cells efficiently killed senescent cells in vivo in non-human primates. They exhibited improved physical performance after treatment.

Researchers at Haifa University have identified a blood test to diagnose patients who suffer from bipolar disorder. The test also can predict if the patient will respond to the most common treatment – Lithium carbonate. It can save misdiagnosis and wrong medication.

Current Developments in Nutrition Aug 23-On average, United States youth consumed fewer than 5 food groups on a given day. The lack of dietary variety and relatively low prevalence of consumption of several micronutrient-rich plant-based foods could pose a risk for adolescents’ ability to achieve micronutrient adequacy in the United States.

Increased omega-6 (red meat) fat consumption during pregnancy increases the risk of autistic children.

A greater diversity of everyday activities is associated with a slower rate of age-related cognitive decline, independently of the amount of physical activity [1]

Infectious Viral Load was lower in fully vaccinated Omicron BA.1-infected individuals compared to fully vaccinated Delta-infected individuals, suggesting that mechanisms other than increased infectious VL contribute to the high infectiousness of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron BA.1. Our findings indicate that vaccines may lower transmission risk and, therefore, have a public health benefit beyond the individual protection from severe disease.

Internet addiction (IA) has been a developing phenomenon in our rapidly developing technologically advanced society. Specific criteria do not yet exist for this phenomenon; however, significant advancements in qualitative and quantitative data are bringing our biopsychosocial evaluation of IA data closer to realization as a diagnosable disorder or behavior.

WebMD-Healthy hair-let hair dry without blow drier, comb it after it is dry, finasteride, minoxidil, conditioner, vitamin B, D, zinc, and omega-3 fats help hair grow (I use all of these), beta-blockers,  amphetamines, stress, and rapid weight loss,  cause hair loss.

Amygdalin Delays Cartilage Endplate Degeneration and Improves Intervertebral Disc Degeneration by Inhibiting NF-κB Signaling Pathway and Inflammatory Response. Might delay arthritis?

Conclusion: Later bedtime was associated with worse late-phase insulin secretion and may be a risk factor for early-onset DM. Proper bedtime to lower risk of early-onset DM deserves further investigation.
