SUBJ: Pyrroloquinoline quinone is a potential agent for prevention of osteoporosis
SUBtitle: ß-Hydroxybutyrate leads to loss of fat mass.
Thanks to those who have responded to my survey. Here’s the link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PVBLG55
It just takes 4 minutes and I appreciate it so much. One suggestion is that the short notes be a list, rather than a paragraph. It will make more lines, but easier to follow.

LONG NOTES:
Age-related osteoporosis is associated with increased oxidative stress and cellular senescence. Pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) is a water-soluble vitamin-like compound that has strong antioxidant capacity; This study reveals the underlying mechanism of PQQ’s strong antioxidant capacity and provides evidence for PQQ as a potential agent for clinical prevention and treatment of natural aging-induced osteoporosis.
J Nutr July: Association between ß-Hydroxybutyrate Plasma Concentrations after Hypocaloric Ketogenic Diets and Changes in Body Composition. Early studies show that ketogenic diets (KDs) lead to preferential loss of fat mass (FM), whereas preserving fat-free mass (FFM). The higher the level of ketosis, the greater the weight and FM loss.
Calcium intake was not associated with risk of lung cancer, but milk intake was associated with a higher risk. Our findings underscore the importance of considering food sources of calcium in studies of calcium intake.
Dietary patterns and dietary quality are associated with the composition (which microorganisms are present) and function (what those microorganisms do) of the human gut microbiota [1]. Previous research has observed differences in microbiota composition in adults [2] based on adherence to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA)[8]. Adults with greater compliance to the Dietary Guidelines demonstrated higher diversity in their fecal microbiota and greater abundance of bacteria capable of metabolizing complex carbohydrates, providing evidence on how Dietary Guidelines support the gut microbiota.
Our findings have first showed that the variety, rather than quantity, in fruit and vegetables (FV) intake was associated with a lower risk of mortality in older Chinese. Dietary guidelines may recommend increasing the variety in FV intake, especially green, red/purple, and white FVs in older people.
A molecule to prevent tooth decay. Scientists in Israel, China and Singapore have discovered a molecule 3,3′-Diindolylmethane (DIM – also known as bisindole) reduces the biofilms that produce dental plaque and cavities by 90%. The molecule is also found to have anti-carcinogenic properties and could be added to toothpastes.
Safe removal of varicose veins. Israel’s VVT Medical has received US FDA approval for its Sclerosafe medical device for the treatment of varicose veins. Its unique, dual syringe injects a sclerosing substance into the vein through one syringe while simultaneously removing blood and residuals through the second syringe.

From Kevin: A Cautionary Note On The Results Of Telemedicine: it appears that a focus on selected problems appears to offer better outcomes than on those individuals with a panoply of clinical problems.
As an individual who suffers from peripheral neuropathy (the diminished ability to “feel” one’s hands and feet – for starters), I recently read an article that more than a couple of my readers might find of interest. It relates to engaging in “balance exercises” for diminishing the risks associated with the falling. His approach includes some critical areas of focus training.
- Improved coordination through balance training. When we first started, I could not for the life of me do heel-to-toe walking or stand one leg. Now I perform much better through a combination of focused exercises and practice. These types of exercises, reduce the rate of falls by 24%.
- Selective and focused weight-lifting along with use of resistance bands. The muscles in the core, hips and legs are critical areas of focused training.
- Tai chi and yoga exercises have been shown to be an effective approach. Through the use of controlled, slow movements with shifts in body weight a person can increase their strength and balance, demonstrating a 20% reduction in falls.
- Flexibility training to improve one’s range of motion and reduce stiffness. These types of exercises clearly add to us older types ability to move around much more effectively and efficiently.
- Find someone with expertise and follow their advice. As an increasingly seasoned elder this is probably the most important part of the program. And, don’t dabble. Get into it. Regular exercise does – in fact – make a difference!
According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, sleep disruption affects an estimated 50-70 million people or just over 20% in the USA alone.
Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC) is projecting a potential increase of 7% in health care costs according to a report recently released by the consulting firm. Labor shortages and inflation were described as the primary culprits.
