LONG NOTES:

To improve your microbiome, they found that peanuts, as well as herbs and spices, increased levels of certain gut bacteria after just 4 to 6 weeks of adding them to a typical American diet, aiding the health of the gut microbiome. How many grams of peanuts? For the peanut study, the researchers recruited 50 adults who had elevated fasting glucose levels and were either overweight or obese. They asked the participants to consume either 28 grams of peanuts or crackers and cheese every day as an evening snack. All participants tried both diets for six weeks with a four-week washout period in between.

Support for rapamycin and resveratrol to increase healthspan: This is indeed one of the most important papers on aging in recent times and opens a new window on aging. “Aging is associated with a systemic length-associated transcriptome imbalance”. Eight antiaging interventions of the Interventions Testing Program of the National Institute on Aging can counter this length association.  There is support for a preferential fold increase of long transcripts for 7 interventions: fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) excess, Myc heterozygosity, rapamycin, resveratrol, S6 kinase 1 (S6K1) deletion, senolytics and Snell mice. We did not find statistically significant support (P > 0.01) for the 4 remaining interventions: Ames mice, eating every other day, Little mice and metformin.  But this conclusion is not totally clear.  We can conclude that the length-associated transcriptome imbalance is responsive to antiaging interventions and that several interventions promoting longevity oppose the direction of the transcriptome imbalance that we are reporting here to be the primary direction of the relative fold change encountered within vertebrates. We thus conclude that the length-associated transcriptome imbalance is responsive to antiaging interventions.

Intermittent Fasting Completely Reverses Type 2 Diabetes in Study

People with diabetes who fast intermittently may no longer need medication, according to a new study. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 37 million Americans have diabetes, with around 90-95% having type 2 diabetes. There are effective medications, such as metformin (which goes under numerous brand names including Glucophage, Fortamet, Glumetza, and Riomet). It is also known that a healthy diet and regular exercise are essential for diabetes control. Now, a new study reveals that an intermittent fasting diet may reverse type 2 diabetes

A new study has uncovered the key factors associated with successful aging, such as being female, married, physically active, not obese, having never smoked, having a higher income, and not having insomnia, heart disease or arthritis. WebMD-  keep showers or baths to less than 10 minutes and to use warm water instead of hot. “use it or lose it” 30 min exercise daily, being around friends and family often has been shown to boost your brain power. Regular exercise and eating healthy foods , get out of your ruts,

About a third of people 85 and older show signs of the Alzheimers.  many things that cause heart disease — tobacco use, diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol — also can lead to dementia. older adults who lived in areas with the highest yearly concentration of air pollution were 1.4 times more likely to get dementia than people who lived in places with cleaner air. people with diabetes get dementia more often [so see statement above to cure yourself of that condition]. Older people who have trouble identifying odors are more than twice as likely to have dementia as those with a sharp sense of smell [so wear a mask to avoid COVID]. high cholesterol in midlife could raise your chances of Alzheimer’s disease later in life. If you have depression, or have had it in the past, you may be more likely to get dementia. Scientists aren’t yet sure that it’s a cause. It may simply be an early symptom or a sign of other causes like Parkinson’s disease or Huntington’s disease. Talk to your doctor or a therapist if you feel down for more than 2 weeks, and right away if you think of harming yourself. Therapy and medication can help with depression.  Super-starchy and processed foods never make the “healthy” list. But did you know eating the two together can up your chances of having dementia? more severe or repeated hits or falls could double or quadruple your chances of dementia, even years after the first injury [so exercise to maintain good balance to avoid falls]. People under age 80 who reported feeling alone were twice as likely to have dementia as those who didn’t feel that way. If you have a lot of extra weight in middle age, you may be more likely to get dementia later in life.  if it happens often — you wake up a lot or don’t sleep enough — you could be more likely to get dementia.

A patient’s own immune cells, multiplied into an army of billions of immune cells in a lab, can be used as a living medicine against metastatic melanoma, an aggressive form of skin cancer, as the TIL trial has shown.

If you want to get rid of dark spots fast, a procedure that removes layers of discolored skin may work better than a lightening cream. These techniques include laser treatments, freezing (cryotherapy), dermabrasion, microdermabrasion, microneedling, and chemical peels.

Israel was ranked the 5th safest country in the world for tourists

Therapy app for parents of autistic children. Israel’s SocialMind Autism has released an AI-powered app program based on Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT). Its 22 lessons helps parents increase an autistic child’s motivation to learn, initiate communication, and improve their social skills.

The Thymus, seat of immunity, deterioration is a major cause of aging, Thymus-Mediated Immunity, and the Problem of Thymic Involution may be treatable.  Nine healthy white men took a combination of three drugs—growth hormone metformin, and a diabetes medication—for a year.  Another suggestion was melatonin, human growth hormone, and DHEA

In a study published on December 2 in the journal Science Advances, laser light therapy has been shown to be effective in improving short-term memory. Laser light therapy, which is non-invasive, could improve short-term, or working memory in people by up to 25 percent according to new research demonstrated by scientists at the University of Birmingham in the UK and Beijing Normal University in China.

Cortisone is making knee arthritis worse? That’s what brand-new studies are showing. Just this past week, a couple of new studies on corticosteroid knee injections showed that they were “significantly associated” with increased progression of osteoarthritis.– Peter A. Fields MD, DC

WebMD – symptoms of parkinsons – 1.5 times more common in men. It’s also more common in older people. Only about 4 out of every 100 cases happen in people under age 50. Each year, about 60,000 people in the U.S. find out they have Parkinson’s. About 1 million people in the U.S. and 10 million around the world have this condition. Symptoms-Tremors or shaking of hands, arms, legs, jaw, or head, Stiffness of arms, legs, and trunk, Slowed movement, Trouble with balance and coordination.

WebMD – acid reflux damage-More than 60 million Americans have it at least once a month. In some people, the sphincter between the stomach and esophagus doesn’t work as well as it should. This allows acid to seep into the esophagus (called acid reflux), People who are overweight, eat large meals, wear tight-fitting clothes, or smoke tend to be more vulnerable. If you have severe heartburn or heartburn two or more times a week, you may have a condition called GERD. Start by eating smaller meals. Finish dinner at least three to four hours before bedtime and avoid late-night snacks. Your symptoms may improve if you avoid tomatoes, onions, garlic, chocolate, peppermint, fatty foods, and citrus fruits,  coffee, tea, sodas, alcohol, tomato juice, and orange juice. However, unless these are causing you acid reflux symptoms, you don’t have to avoid them.  Abdominal crunches, Headstands and inverted yoga poses, such as downward dog can be a problem, If you have nighttime heartburn, try placing blocks under the legs of your bed to raise the head about 6 inches, or sleep with your upper body on a wedge pillow.  Lose excess weight and wear loose-fitting clothes and belts. More than half of all pregnant women report symptoms of severe heartburn, especially during their second and third trimesters. pregnant women should consult their doctor before taking any medications. For occasional heartburn, take something that works immediately, like a liquid antacid. H2 blockers work differently than antacids. Rather than zapping acids after they appear, these medications lower the production of stomach acid. This can help prevent heartburn from acid reflux if taken about 30 minutes before meals. Proton pump inhibitors, available over-the-counter and by prescription, are a class of drugs that block the production of stomach acid. They are more effective at decreasing acid production than H2 blockers.

WebMD – worst foods for high blood pressure – About 50% of people are salt-sensitive,  most of the sodium in U.S. diets comes from restaurant and packaged foods, bread, tomato juice, processed meat, pizza, alcohol, cheese, condiments

Caution about Longevity insider newsletter-This statement has no citation. While there is much evidence for vitamin D benefits, fisetin remains controversial.  Senescent cells have many benefits so destroying them may accelerate cancer –“Vitamin D can help us live longer, while fisetin may be the key to reversing aging. Size also plays a role in cellular aging. Fisetin is becoming increasingly popular as a potential source of the scientific fountain of youth. It is a class of drugs that may help in giving you a longer lifespan, better health and an improved body. Studies have shown that fisetin may be able to reverse aging by killing senescent cells, activating sirtuins, and reducing inflammation and oxidative damage.” Activating sirtuins, reducing inflammation and oxidative damage can be accomplished by safer actions.
