LONG NOTES:

Saturated fats cause diabetes. The results of our meta-analysis showed negative associations between dietary intake of saturated fatty acids and risk of T2DM.

Our results suggest that higher levels of unsaturated fatty acids may relieve symptoms or reduce the risk of various mental disorders

An intake of 28 grams of nuts per day compared to not eating nuts was associated with a 21% relative risk reduction of cardiovascular disease (including coronary heart disease incidence and mortality, atrial fibrillation, and stroke mortality), 11% risk reduction of cancer deaths, and 22% reduction in all-cause mortality. Nut consumption was also inversely associated with mortality from respiratory diseases, infectious diseases, and diabetes: however, associations between nut consumption and diabetes incidence were mixed. Meta-analyses of trials on biomarkers for disease generally mirrored meta-analyses from observational studies on cardiovascular disease, cancers, and diabetes. Allergy and related adverse reactions to nuts were observed among 1–2% of adult populations, with substantial heterogeneity between studies. Overall, the current evidence supports dietary recommendations to consume a handful of nuts and seeds per day for people without allergies to these foods.

Science 2 Sept pg 1040-Mother Brain: How Neuroscienc is rewriting the story of parenting: Brains of mothers and fathers change when raising a child, improving social skills and predictive ability, enhancing care giver’s sense of self to include the child; pg 1041-Growing up Human: The Evolution of Childhood: “Childhood is the long, long intermission between the business of being babies and the business of making babies.” Childhood is the period when we learn how to become members of our species. The investments parents make are a crucial pillar in our reproductive strategy. We live in an unequal world where we have choices to right the wrongs of our history.; pg 1042-Pulsing with gonadotropin-releasing hormone can improve cognition in Down’s syndrome and Alzheimer’s.

NO Adverse Effects of Excessive Zinc Intake in Infants and Children Aged 0-3 Years.  Although possible adverse effects of zinc supplementation  from 3 to 70 mg/d were observed in some subgroups, it is unclear whether these findings are clinically important.

Increasing physical activity, getting enough sleep, decreasing sugar intake and including more fish in your diet are some steps you can take to improve leptin sensitivity. Lowering your blood triglycerides is important, too. In obese animals, leptin resistance can be reversed with treatments that reduce body adiposity and leptinaemia, while physiological leptin resistance reverts spontaneously when pregnant animals give birth or when seasonal animals are exposed to a short-day photoperiod. The mechanisms involved in leptin transportation across the blood–brain barrier continue to be unclear, thereby preventing the clinical application of leptin in the treatment of obesity. In recent years to 2019, new strategies have been developed to recover the response to leptin in obesity. We have summarized these strategies in this review. This review (2021) examines recent data obtained from human and animal studies related to leptin, its role in obesity, and its usefulness in obesity treatment.

Researchers at Tel Aviv University and the University of Lisbon have improved the current method of disabling cancer’s defenses. Instead of an expensive antibody infusion that only partially works, they developed a tiny molecule for a totally effective treatment that can be administered orally at home.

Try yoga, meditation, or deep breathing.

Low maternal choline intake/circulating choline level was associated with a higher odds ratio for neural tube defects in the offspring.

Don’t sit too much- those that sat were about twice as likely to get heart disease as those that stood, You’re more likely to die earlier from any cause if you sit for long stretches at a time. It doesn’t help if you exercise every day or not, your brain could look just like that of someone with dementia. Touch your toes.

Handgrip Strength as a Predictor of Successful Rehabilitation After Hip Fracture in Patients 65 Years of Age and Above. The mean age was 81.2 ± 7.2 years and 68.2% were women. In a logistic regression model only HGS, as a continuous variable, was independently associated with rehabilitation success, with each increase of 1 kg increasing the chance for successful rehabilitation by 6.8%.

Don’t Pop a blister if You Don’t Have To, Go to the doctor if you have a fever, chills, or other flu-like symptoms at the same time you have blisters.

Krill oil improved osteoarthritic knee pain in adults with mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis: a 6-month multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. 0.5 g/day for 6 mos.
