SHORT NOTES: why I am taking:alpha-ketoglutarate (anti-aging), Urolithin A alleviates pain in osteoarthritis; Sups being considered: 1) Carnosine may reverse Glycation which promotes Alzheimer’s disease, atherosclerosis, and cataracts and in diabetic complications; 2) Glycine and N-acetyl-cysteine; 3) Artemisia argyi rapidly promotes healthy aging; healthy diet, exercise 2.5 hrs/week, lower stress, quit smoking, manage weight and alcohol, reduces heart disease 92% and high blood pressure 66%; It is better not to use an alarm clock or work during the night; The longevity quotient (LQ) is a measure of whether a species’ life span is above or below a trend line for its size, Mice have low LQs and are poor experimental animals for aging research; Foods to reduce the risk of prostate cancer that One in 8 men will develop; Non-invasive neuromodulation gave a rapid reduction in obsessive-compulsive behaviors; heart symptoms of concern; Sleep aids that work ; Many reasons to eat cranberries!

LONG NOTES:

Sups I am taking:
alpha-ketoglutarate – Human age reversal: Fact or fiction? Specific molecules have been associated with the reduction or reversal of predicted biological age, such as the antihypertensive drug doxazosin or the metabolite alpha-ketoglutarate

Urolithin A improves mitochondrial health, reduces cartilage degeneration, and alleviates pain in osteoarthritis

Sups being considered: Carnosine is a dipeptide synthesized in the body from β-alanine and L-histidine. It is found in high concentrations in the brain, muscle, and gastrointestinal tissues of humans. carnosine scavenges reactive oxygen species (ROS) as well as alpha-beta unsaturated aldehydes created by peroxidation of fatty acid cell membranes during oxidative stress. Carnosine is widely used among athletes in the form of supplements.  Carnosine at 500 mg is an anti-glycation compound.  Glycation, or nonenzymatic glycosylation, is a chemical reaction between reactive carbonyl-containing compounds and biomolecules containing free amino groups. Carbonyl-containing compounds include reducing sugars such as glucose or fructose. Glycation-induced damage to these biomolecules has been shown to be a contributing factor in human disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, atherosclerosis, and cataracts and in diabetic complications.  Carnosine supplementation in the form of functional food has potential health benefits and up to the present, neglected clinical use of carnosine.

Artemisia argyi – Aging is accompanied by functional loss of many cellular pathways, creating an increased risk of many age-related complications (ARC). Aging causes stem cell exhaustion with a concomitant increase in cellular dysfunction. Recently, interest in senotherapeutics has been growing rapidly to promote healthy aging and as an intervention for ARCs. This research focused on screening the senomorphic properties of Artemisia argyi, as an emerging strategy for longevity, and prevention or treatment of ARCs. In this study, we aimed to find the clinical efficacy of daily consumption of Artemisia argyi water extract (AAW) on aging. AAW successfully restored the decline cardiac function and improved the grip strength and memory of aging rat.

Other news:

Heartline study – healthy diet, exercise 2.5 hrs/week, lower stress, quit smoking, manage weight and alcohol, reduces heart disease 92% and high blood pressure 66%

Science 12 Aug pg 717-It is better not to use an alarm clock or work during the night. Obeying your circadian rhythms is essential to health; pg 718 – The longevity quotient (LQ) is a measure of whether a species’ life span is above or below a trend line for its size.  Certain fish and salamanders have very high LQs.  Naked mole rats are not as high.  Mice have low LQs and are poor experimental animals for aging research.  Gerontologist Olshansky states the first person who will live to 150 has already been born. (I emailed the author of the article that it will be me!)

One in 8 men will develop prostate cancer, though often it is slow growing and death will occur before the cancer matters. Food to reduce the risk: cruciferous veggies, tomatoes, coffee, urolithin A, green tea, boron, vitamin D, curcumin,Walnuts.

Science 5 Aug 22 pg 589– Non-invasive neuromodulation gave a rapid reduction in obsessive-compulsive behaviors lasting at least 6 months.

WebMD-heart symptoms of concern- Chest Pain, arms could feel heavy or “useless,” Your lower jaw on one or both sides may hurt or feel tight. Your neck may ache, or you could have a choking or burning feeling in your throat, if you suddenly get wiped out at times you usually wouldn’t, feel like you’re going to pass out, break out in a sweat even if you’re not pushing yourself hard. You could feel cold and clammy. You may be short of breath,  a regular cough and wheeze, swelling in your feet, ankles, legs, or stomach, feel like your heart is racing, heart rhythm disorder like atrial fibrillation (AFib), sleep apnea, Chest Pain, Arm or Back Pain, Sweating and Trouble Breathing, Coughing and Wheezing, Swelling in your feet, ankles, legs, or Trouble Getting Around, Irregular Heartbeat (AFib), Loud Snoring, Erectile Dysfunction.

WebMD – Sleep aids that work – Melatonin, lavender, valerian, CBD oil, 3g glycine, camomille, magnesium, tart cherry juice an hour before bedtime

Reasons to eat cranberries – High in Antioxidants, the polyphenols stay in your saliva even after you’ve chewed and swallowed. There, they help prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and oral cancer, have A-type proanthocyanidins, which help stop gut infections before they start, Good Source of Fiber, High in Vitamin C, may lower your “bad” cholesterol and raise your “good” cholesterol.
